Mekka Hornet is a top-down retro shooter that was inspired by a Japanese company who go by the name of Studio Ghibli. They created a game called, Apidya, this game is a side scrolling shooter and there is a Hornet for a boss.
Gut Reaction
My gut reaction to this game was that it is rather challenging as well as being quite addictive at the same time. The game does appeal to me with its art style however I do not like the controls as them feel a little bit delayed. I feel with further development this game could be quite a fun game to play on a phone or tablet.
Content
The game looks like a retro-styled and there is a lot of attention to details no matter how small. All of the art assets combine and create a well-rounded game that is memorable for how it looks.
Construction
At the start you are a wasp that is trying to survive other enemies to finally reach a boss that is a huge, mothership from what I can tell. This mothership fires rockets at the player model that you can shoot to destroy. There is quite a lot of work been put into the graphics and you can definitely tell that this is the case.
Target Audience
Anyone that likes retro style, side scrolling shoot 'em up games.
